The packaging ordering process you have to know

Discover the essential steps involved in custom packaging design and production. Gain insights into the packaging customization process you need to know.

The packaging ordering process you have to know

The image shows three personal care products in a minimalist design. A white circular container on the top of the lid, a bottle of body lotion, and a rectangular box, all in beige with the word "quarter" printed on it.

Step 1: Determine the box/ bottle shape

If you need to re-design a bottle or box shape, the cost of moulding is very high. Generally, we will use the regular bottle shapes in the market to store the products for trial and error unless there is a special need. If you want to use a new packaging, whether it is a new way of opening or a different packaging carrier, you need to consider the acceptance level of the consumers in the market. Instead, using a common box type can significantly reduce consumer awareness.

Step 2: Design the packaging layout

After determining the shape and size of the package, measure the specific dimensions of the inner and outer packaging according to the product, and then you can carry out the ideas and creative design on the plane.

Here we need to mention, packaging design also need to take into account the actual cost of packaging materials, whether the process can be achieved, printing colour deviation, etc. ...

White boxes of different sizes are scattered on a grey background, with black text describing the product information, such as "AROMA THERAPY", "SOY CANDLE", etc., giving a minimalist and modern feel.

Step 3: Printing Press Proofing

Packaging must be proofed before mass production. Multiple communications and repeated design revisions are necessary if the design results or proofs are unsatisfactory or substandard. Whether there is a core extrusion of the brand, whether it can meet the aesthetic sense of consumers? The most important thing is not to just look at it, but to put it on the shelf to feel and compare.

Step 4: Check important information and modify

It's important to listen to the customer and other relevant key personnel, in order to modify during the design process. The colour, barcode, product information, logo and other information, must be checked repeatedly, to prevent errors in the printed product. To avoid unnecessary losses, only after the personnel have finished checking can we send it to the printing house.

The unfolded dark blue box is printed with white text describing the product's ocean-related properties and is decorated with a wave pattern.

Step 5: Landing Printing

This is the key step of packaging landing. Mass production printing will be done using machines based on drawings provided by the designer. At present, there are mainly offset printing, flexo printing and gravure printing processes.

Step 6: Packaging and Printing Process

Packaging processing is the upgrading of packaging products in order to further improve the appearance of packaging. Ordinary printing can no longer satisfy the aesthetic requirements of contemporary people.

Therefore, more and more packaging finishing, decorating, decorating process gradually matured. At present, the common packaging finishing processes are: varnishing, hot stamping, embossing, laminating, laminating and so on. After these processes, the finished package will become more detailed and more beautiful.

Step 7: Moulding, Cutting and Box Gluing

This step is not within the scope of the designer's responsibility. But we need to talk about the final stage of packaging forming, through the printed packaging template, slotting, slitting, cross-cutting, compounding, slitting and other processes, so that the packaging boxes, bags, boxes and other gradual formation.

Some of these boxes can be produced directly by printing and slotting machines with objective efficiency. However, for special cartons such as pallets, apart from slotting, they still need to be die-cut, just like cartons. It is necessary to fold the boxes manually or mechanically, and use the gluing machine and adhesive to glue the boxes and do other finishing work.
